From ordinary folk to consumer groups, Malaysians have diverging views about the conditional movement control order (MCO) that starts tomorrow.
Fomca chief executive officer Datuk Dr Paul Selva Raj (pic) said it was time to revive the economy and reopen sectors while keeping Covid-19 at bay.
“The earlier the government can get people back to work to revive the economy, the more helpful it will be, ” he said.
“Many people are affected in terms of job and income losses and facing all sorts of uncertainties about the future.”
Thus, he said reviving the economy was important.
“We have a positive view of the conditional MCO, ” he said in reference to the government’s announcement on Friday that selected economic and social activities would be allowed to resume on May 4.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought about numerous grievances for most of us, if not all. With the infectious disease declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO), our daily routine has been restricted, as the government has declared a Movement Control Order (MCO) in order to contain the spread of this deadly contagious virus.
Not only our government, but many countries around the globe have declared lockdowns or restricted movements.
Fomca has received a lot of complaints during the MCO from consumers on the travel and leisure sector. Prior to the outbreak, many consumers made agreements with travel agencies, airlines, concert venues and many others. Many of them saved little by little to go for an excursion or holiday.
Some sacrificed many things in their lives to go for holiday, hoping that travel agencies as well as airlines would fulfil their dreams. And many consumers made the bookings using their credit cards and they have yet to settle the repayment.

Abolish, reduce RPGT tax to help middle class

April 30, 2020 @ 5:07pm MYT
The current Covid-19 pandemic has put tremendous financial pressures not only on the low income but also the middle income families. Loss of jobs, reduced incomes and fear of an uncertain future are some of the immediate and long terms fears and concerns of households.
The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research has estimated a loss of more than 2.4 million jobs as a consequence of this pandemic. Clearly the financial support by government to assist consumers to survive these difficult times is extremely limited.
Firstly, many self-employed and daily wage workers are excluded. Secondly, the one-off aid received is clearly insufficient to meet personal and household basic needs and consumers have to find their own means to raise cash to meet their basic obligations.
There can be expected to be many fall-out from these economic consequences, including disposal of one's assets to generate cash for the family. Some families might even have to sell their homes. It would be tragic but may be unavoidable to survive and ensure sustenance for the family.

APRIL 16 — Our nation is facing a pandemic which is creating animosity among families and is mounting daily. Companies and SMEs are closing down with workers taking pay cuts or receiving no pay, while the self-employed are finding it hard to sustain their families. All these are due do the Covid-19 and the movement control order (MCO) which has been extended further.
The government came up with stimulus package to assist those badly hit by the MCO. Banks also came up with their assistance programme to consumers by declaring a moratorium of 6 months payments on loans to enquire or clarify their issues.
Fomca has been receiving a lot of enquiries related to banking issues. Consumers are calling Fomca as the banks do not appear to have proper communication channel for the customers who have taken up loans with banks.
