KUALA LUMPUR: Pelaksanaan cukai barangan dan perkhidmatan selama lebih kurang 4 tahun dari April 2015 hingga Jun 2018 sepatutnya menurunkan harga barang, namun secara amnya itu tidak berlaku.

Hal demikian adalah disebabkan peniaga, yang awalnya mengikut tatacara pelaksanaan sistem percukaian itu, akhirnya terpaksa meningkatkan harga jualan untuk menanggung kos kerugian kerana pembayaran balik yang dijanjikan lewat sampai ke tangan mereka.

Kata Pengasas Bersama Industries Unite, Datuk Irwin SW Cheong, kebanyakan negara yang melaksanakan GST atau cukai seumpamanya berjaya menurunkan harga kerana ia dilaksanakan dengan cekap dan telus.

“Kalau cukai nilai tambah (VAT) yang dikutip di Thailand, sehari sebelum anda keluar meninggalkan negara itu bayaran balik sudah dibuat, sangat cepat dalam beberapa jam sahaja.

“Di Malaysia, kita ada buat survei berkenaan hal ini, banyak peniaga yang kata bukan (memakan masa) berbulan-bulan tetapi ada yang lebih setahun, sampai 18 bulan tak dapat lagi,” katanya.

Beliau menjelaskan, kalau peniaga tidak menaikkan harga barang jualan ketika menunggu tibanya bayaran balik ke tangan mereka, mereka tiada keuntungan.

Maka katanya sekiranya kerajaan mahu melaksanakan semula cukai tersebut, perlu dipastikan perkara sedemikian tidak lagi berlaku agar GST benar-benar mencapai matlamatnya.

SIBU: Kementerian Kerja Raya (KKR) menggesa masyarakat untuk membuat aduan berhubung kerosakan jalan bagi memastikan tindakan dapat diambil dalam kadar segera sekali gus meningkatkan keselamatan pengguna.

Menterinya Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof berkata respons daripada pengguna jalan raya amat penting dalam menyalurkan maklumat mengenai masalah yang dihadapi agar ia dapat ditangani dengan berkesan.

“Ini yang kita laksanakan di peringkat kementerian. Kita wujudkan ruang aduan jalan raya tanpa mengira isu.

"Apa sahaja yang berkaitan dengan jalan, anda boleh kemukakan aduan kepada kami.

“Oleh itu, kita boleh menyalurkan perincian mengenai aduan kepada agensi yang berkaitan,” katanya.

Beliau berkata demikian pada majlis makan malam Program FTRoadpedia KKR 2022 Lebuhraya Pan Borneo di sebuah hotel terkemuka di Sibu pada Khamis.

Menurutnya terdapat tiga jenis jalan secara umumnya dikenali sebagai jalan persekutuan, jalan negeri dan jalan majlis.

Kesemua jalan tersebut katanya diuruskan oleh tiga entiti berbeza dengan jalan persekutuan di bawah tanggungjawab Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Malaysia, manakala jalan negeri dikawal selia oleh kerajaan negeri, dan majlis perbandaran atau majlis daerah bertanggungjawab terhadap jalan majlis.

“Tiga jalan ini mempunyai kod pengenalan tersendiri, jadi dengan aduan yang dibuat, ia boleh ditangani dengan segera seterusnya dapat mengelakkan kekeliruan peranan yang dilakukan oleh JKR Malaysia.

“Realitinya, apabila terdapat isu jalan rosak, Menteri Kerja Raya yang akan dipersoalkan, dimarah terlebih dahulu tidak kira jalan mana sekalipun.

“Sebab itu dalam kes seperti ini, perlunya aduan dibuat menerusi ruang aduan yang telah disediakan oleh KKR,” katanya.

KETIKA pihak berkuasa sedang berusaha memberi kesedaran untuk mendidik dan memberi kesedaran berkenaan jenayah penipuan dalam talian (online), agak menyedihkan apabila masih ada masyarakat kita yang terjerat dengan helah scammer.
Adalah amat merunsingkan apabila perkara ini masih terus berlaku.

Bayangkan, Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) bertungkus-lumus melakukan kempen tidak kira menerusi laman sosial mahu pun secara fizikal, kes tetap berlaku. Kerugian bukannya kecil, ada yang hingga berjuta ringgit.
Segala wang simpanan termasuklah di Tabung Haji dan Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) habis licin diperah scammer.

Ini modus operandi jenayah penipuan yang dikesan bagi mengaut untung memperdaya mangsa.

Jenayah penipuan online hari ini meliputi pelbagai antaranya African Scam, Love Scam, Parcel Scam, pembelian online, pinjaman tidak wujud (PTW) dan yang paling popular iaitu Macau Scam.

Ambil contoh Macau Scam, modus operandi jenayah ini adalah sama dan kerap kali diulas oleh Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial (JSJK) PDRM.

Amat 'basic' apabila scammer ini akan memperkenalkan diri sebagai pihak berkuasa misalnya polis, kastam, Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN), mahkamah mahu pun perkhidmatan penghantaran. Mangsa akan ditakutkan kononnya mempunyai tunggakan saman, barang yang tidak lulus atau rekod jenayah.

PETALING JAYA: Vendors at wet markets are lamenting that rising prices are causing their customers to reduce their spending.

Chicken seller Mahanom Husin, who has been operating at Pasar Seri Setia for close to 40 years, told FMT many of her customers were reducing their purchases by half.
“Prices are too high,” she said.

Chicken prices have been on the rise for more than three months.

Another chicken seller, Robaiyah Amir, said she had no choice but to increase prices, selling at RM11.50 per kg although the ceiling price set by the government is RM8.90.

She claimed that she still could not make a profit because of high operational costs.

Fish prices have also been rising.

According to seafood vendor Sathish Kumar, fish prices used to fluctuate within a specific range due to weather conditions but have doubled over the past few months.

“Cencaru, for example, used to sell at between RM10 and RM11 per kg, but has since risen to RM20 to RM22,” he said.

He said some of his customers had reduced their spending to less than half of the amount they used to spend.

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has clarified that pharmaceutical products are not experiencing a shortage as there are alternative medicines and brands in the market which offer the same results.

It said manufacturers have also increased their production capacity to fulfill the increased demand.

According to industry players, the increased demand was for several medicines such as paracetamol (used for fevers and mild pains) and vitamin C, and also cough and flu medicines for children.

“The health ministry is waiting for further response from the industry regarding the actual supply status of medicines produced in Malaysia and those imported, along with related issues,” it said in a statement today.

Yesterday, the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) advised the public against panic buying of medicines in light of the recent shortage of certain medications in the market.

MMA president Dr Koh Kar Chai said the local industry had trouble meeting the demand because of the lack of raw materials and insufficient production capacity.

However, he said, they have placed increased product orders from overseas manufacturers.

MMA said it hoped to see a correction in the supply and demand of such medicines in the market soon.

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will monitor e-hailing services from time to time as well as gather and analyse information before any changes are made, including the proposed fare regulatory mechanism.

The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) said factors such as the working environment of drivers, passengers, service providers, and others must be taken into account to ensure balanced supply and demand.

This follows complaints from passengers regarding the current e-hailing price surge and driver shortage, especially during peak hours.

The service fare was reported to have increased up to 400% during peak hours, triggering dissatisfaction among passengers and consumer groups.

They also called for government intervention, among others, including implementing an e-hailing fare regulation.

According to the agency, the concept of e-hailing service involves mutual agreement between users and service providers for travel bookings through an application that displays the fare amount. Users have the option to continue with the booking or not.

“To date, there are more than 10 major e-hailing service providers offering the service,” the agency said.

Meanwhile, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) senior lecturer Nur Azam Anuarul Perai said the proposal to regulate prices, such as setting a ceiling price, may cause a shortage of drivers as they could quit due to inadequate returns.

KUALA LUMPUR - Penggunaan pelbagai sumber bahan api dan pemberian subsidi telah membolehkan rakyat Malaysia berterusan menikmati kadar tarif elektrik antara terendah di rantau Asia Tenggara sejak sekian lama, meskipun sektor tenaga sentiasa ditekan oleh pelbagai faktor luaran dan dalaman.

Begitupun kenaikan luar jangka harga bahan api khususnya arang batu dan gas asli sejak penularan Covid-19, mewujudkan tekanan luar biasa sehingga menimbulkan tanda tanya sejauh mana daya tahan tarif elektrik negara.

Ini kerana hampir 93 peratus elektrik di Semenanjung Malaysia dijana menggunakan arang batu serta gas asli, dan pada masa ini harga arang batu dunia melonjak ke paras lebih US$200 setan serta dijangka terus meningkat berikutan krisis Ukraine-Rusia.

Menurut Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), kos penjanaan elektrik termasuk kos bahan api membentuk lebih 65 peratus daripada tarif asas elektrik dan kenaikan harga bahan api fosil, khususnya arang batu, menyebabkan kos penjanaan elektrik negara kini meningkat 4.5 kali ganda.

Dalam kemelut ini, bagi tempoh Februari hingga Jun depan, pengguna domestik di Semenanjung masih dapat menikmati rebat dua sen bagi setiap kilowatt per jam (kWj), manakala surcaj minimum 3.7 sen/kWj dikenakan terhadap pengguna industri dan komersial. Ini dapat dilaksanakan melalui mekanisme Pelepasan Kos Tidak Seimbang (ICPT) yang membolehkan kerajaan melaraskan kos penjanaan dan bahan api setiap enam bulan.

PETALING JAYA: The Court of Appeal has upheld a High Court decision that an undocumented worker has the right to have her case heard by the labour court.

Tenaganita executive director Glorene Das said the decision marked a significant step in ensuring marginalised groups like undocumented migrant workers were able to access justice through the labour department.

“We hope that with this Court of Appeal ruling, the labour department will now have an unequivocal mandate to overcome any devious attempts to use the Immigration Act to override basic human rights,” said Das in a statement.

She said Court of Appeal judge Ravinthran Paramaguru ruled that there is nothing in the Employment Act and in the Employment (Restriction) Act which prevents a worker from approaching the labour court for redress.

“The labour court should not shut its doors against an undocumented worker without allowing her to vent her grievances,” he said.

In August 2018, the Port Klang labour court dismissed a claim by an undocumented worker against her previous employer, Angie Lee, for unpaid wages of over RM30,000. The worker, nicknamed Nona, then appealed against the labour court’s decision.

In 2019, the Shah Alam High Court held that the labour court must hear Nona’s case, but the employer later appealed against the decision.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has urged consumers affected by indiscriminate changes to flight schedules to lodge a complaint with their respective operating airlines.

Executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim said it was important for consumers to be well informed of their rights as air travellers.

Saripuddin said the airlines customer should be made aware that airlines and other aviation service providers must resolve their complaints within 30 days as outlined in the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code (MACPC).

"This timeline requirement also applies to various other aviation-related issues, including flight cancellations, mishandled baggage, and others," he said in a statment.

Meanwhile, Saripuddin said if the response provided by the airlines was unsatisfactory or if the matter remained unresolved, the customer should escalate those complaints to Mavcom together with the relevant documentation.

"Since Mavcom's inception in 2016, we received more than 22,000 complaints and feedback from consumers whom we have assisted," he said.

Mavcom stands firm that consumer rights should continuously be upheld by airlines and is well underway with its investigation of flight schedule disruptions by all airlines over the recent festive period.

KUALA LUMPUR, 11 MEI: Maklumat akaun bank yang digunakan sebagai akaun keldai akan dikongsi oleh Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) dengan semua institusi kewangan supaya pemiliknya disenarai hitam daripada membuka akaun baharu.

Maklumat berkenaan juga akan disenaraikan dalam ‘Portal Semak Mule’ Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial (JSJK) yang boleh diakses melalui https://ccid.rmp.gov.my/semakmule.

Pengarah JSJK Bukit Aman Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din berkata trend jenayah komersil kini menyaksikan akaun keldai semakin berleluasa digunakan oleh penjenayah untuk menerima wang hasil daripada aktiviti penipuan dalam talian dan menerusi media sosial.

“Sepanjang tahun lepas, sebanyak 29,769 akaun bank didapati digunakan sebagai akaun keldai, manakala bagi tahun ini sehingga 10 Mei lepas, sebanyak 1,669 akaun keldai direkodkan.

“Daripada jumlah itu, seramai 12,659 individu ditahan dan dituduh di mahkamah atas pelbagai kesalahan kerana membenarkan akaun bank mereka digunakan untuk aktiviti jenayah,” katanya dalam kenyataan hari ini.

Mohd Kamarudin berkata siasatan polis menunjukkan individu yang membenarkan akaun bank mereka digunakan oleh penjenayah sebenarnya mengetahui bahawa mereka tidak boleh mendedahkan sebarang maklumat akaun kepada mana-mana pihak.

Justeru, beliau menggesa individu atau syarikat yang tidak lagi mempunyai kawalan ke atas akaun bank mereka dan akaun itu digunakan untuk kegiatan menyalahi undang-undang, agar segera menutup akaun berkenaan.
