BELOW are some frequently asked questions (FAQ) regarding Bantuan Prihatin Elektrik.
Q What is Bantuan Prihatin Elektrik (BPE)?
A BPE is an additional assistance package provided by the government together with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) for all domestic customers in the form of free electricity usage benefits of up to RM77 a month, equivalent to the first 300kWh electricity usage for three months during the movement control order (MCO).
In addition, domestic consumers who consume between 601 - 900 kWh of electricity per month will enjoy an additional 10% discount which is an additional 8% from the existing 2% discount rate from April to September.
Q What is the difference between BPE and the Prihatin discount?
A The Prihatin discounts are given to customers from April to September, while BPE is an additional aid provided to ease the burden of higher billing faced by customers from April to June.
Q Who is eligible for BPE?
A All TNB domestic customers are elligible for the BPE, which will be included in the July bill. There is no need to apply for it.
Q Are commercial, industrial and agricultural customers also eligible for BPE?
A BPE is only for TNB domestic customers who were affected by higher electricity bills than usual in April, May and June. However, commercial, industrial and agricultural customers will enjoy discounts from April to September as announced by the government earlier.
Q Why does BPE take into account only bills from April to June?
A TNB is aware that throughout the implementation of the MCO, it was possible that electricity consumption was higher than normal. Therefore, BPE is provided to all customers to help reduce higher billing burden.
Q Was there a mistake in the bill calculation given earlier?
A Methods for computing bills by TNB have been reviewed and approved by the Energy Commission. This method is also commonly used by leading electric utility companies around the world.
Q How is BPE calculated?
A All domestic customers will enjoy additional BPE assistance. All 7.66 million domestic users in Peninsular Malaysia who have an account with TNB will receive free electricity usage of up to RM77 a month, or equivalent to the first 300kWh of electricity usage. This assistance for April, May, and June allows consumers to benefit by up to RM231 over the three months. The actual amount of BPE will be stated in the July bill.
Q I am still receiving the estimated bill. How do I get the actual bill?
A If the customer does not receive the actual bill reading, he may contact TNB Careline to arrange for the meter reader to take the reading at the customer’s premises. Customers can also take their own meter readings and forward them to TNB Careline via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The actual bill will be issued thereafter.
Q How will BPE affect the Easy Payment Plan (EPP) that I would have to pay?
A BPE will help reduce the amount of arrears and the EPP amount will be updated automatically every month until December.
Q Will BPE continue after July?
A No. BPE is an additional help to ease the burden of higher bills in April, May and June.
